NREL WindPACT 1.5 MW Wind Turbine v 1.0

The WP1500 model has been converted from the FAST model (Test13.fst) distributed with FAST from NREL. The model is based on the reference [1].

As no minimum generator speed has been declared a rotor speed of 10 rpm (880 rpm generator speed) has been selected. The maximum generator speed is 1800 rpm giving approx 20.5 rpm for the rotor speed, when the gear ratio is 87.965.

The generator efficiency of 95 percent given in the FAST file has not been used. Instead, an efficiency of 100 percent has been used in this revision. Future revisions, might have different efficiency.

The selected minimum pitch angle has been chosen to be 5 deg. This is not optimal angle which is closer to 2 deg. Future revisions of this model might have this angle adjusted.

The profile coefficient data has been computed with XFOIL instead of the data supplied with the FAST model. This has been done to get aerodynamic moment coefficient (CM) which was not supplied with the original model.

Future revisions might have an updated structural blade model as the conversion from FAST to HAWC2 was performed with an out-of-date conversion routine.

Damping of the structural bodies has been performed using stiffness-proportional damping terms only. Thus higher modes: 2nd blade flap, 2nd tower fore-aft and 2nd tower side-side have not the correct damping ratios.
